ApprenticeRCA

Come In & Tuck In

Sat 6 Nov

11:00 am – 1:00 pm

A group of students from the Royal College of Art (RCA) have organized an event this Saturday, 6th November, to entice passers-by to discover the culinary – and other – treasures offered by the Seven Sisters Indoor Market, a unique London institution home to a predominantly Latin American community.

In a stunt reminiscent of a mixture between a Treasure Hunt, Supermario and Alice in Wonderland, the public will find themselves wandering through a field of over 200 coloured balloons, to be ‘plucked’ and exchanged for a free taste of colourful international, and arguably equally ‘local’, treats.

The ‘ApprenticeRCA’ project – combining expertise from disciplines as varied as Ceramics, Product Design and Architecture – explored action in the community as a creative practice. Wards Corner Community Coalition will open up their stall in the market, revamped for the event by the RCA team, to discuss their ongoing struggle against an insensitive redevelopment of the area.

Happy Balloon Hunt and ¡Que Aproveche! The event will run from 11am till 1pm.

WCC are proud to have 15 students from the Royal College of Art sharing Wards Corner with us this week, while they undertake a week as 'Community Apprentices'
