The WCC continues to fight for a fairer future and has received planning permission for a sustainable, community-led development of the Wards Corner Site. So far we have detailed plans for the indoor market and corner store. In the long term we will work on the other three corners of the Wards site to restore and improve this town centre that has been neglected for over forty years by Transport for London and Haringey Council.

On Saturday 8th April we are having a day full of events at Wards Corner, 2 to 4pm. We want to repeat our 2008 action of surrounding the block, to give it a hug. We need about 500 people for this, so please come along. We're having a salsa band, dancing, children's music, and lots of updating for those who want to catch up with the campaign. Please join us and bring everyone you know. Right on top of Seven Sisters tube station.

All this is planned to be at Wood Green Civic Centre, which is far from ideal. We were told before that the hearing would be at the local college or the old Town Hall, both of which are just five minutes' walk from Wards Corner. The Civic Centre is at least two bus rides away, so it is much more difficult for those affected to go except for whole days. Another unfair move by Haringey Council.
We need people to come to the hearings,m so please note these dates in your diary.

    [under construction]
The Wards Corner Community Coalition ("WCC") came together to block a development by Grainger plc (supported by Haringey Council and NDC). Grainger's plans would result in the eviction of many long standing business traders and residents.
The Coalition want to hold onto their market, their local businesses, their meeting spaces, the buildings they cherished and improve the area by building on the vibrant and multi-cultural character of Seven Sisters.
The process of developing an alternative plan has brought communities together and we have become inspired by the sheer skills and knowledge possessed by our local community.

    .
    Why campaign for Wards Corner?
For a long time Tottenham has been the target of speculative development by people who have no real interest in the well-being of the area and its future. Increasingly those who have control over land use have no vested interest in the area and our public spaces - parks, streets, squares, small businesses and markets - are being sold to and for big business. There is little space in ‘their’ plans to incorporate the aspirations of people and its locality – nothing new there and this is exactly what was happening at Wards Corner, Seven Sisters.

The Big Call for Funds to Save Wards Corner
The WCC have launched a legalwill challenge against Haringey Council's latest decisionmove in working with developer Grainger PLC to grant planning permissiondemolish the Wards site. Grainger need the CPO to happen so they can demolish the whole block and build private flats. No social housing, not even 'affordable'. Meanwhile Grainger PLC. This is going ahead on the opposite corner, with building a necessary step in effortshuge tower block, 23 storeys, with 165 private flats, replacing the council's Customer Service facility Apex House.

The time has come to challenge
the demolition ofCompulsory Purchase Order (CPO) for Wards Corner,Corner - Haringey Council have issued a CPO to help the destruction of livelihoods anddeveloper Grainger force the loss of vital community space for local peoplesale shops and WE NEED YOUR HELP!
    We
    homes at Seven Sisters.
    We
have instructed an expert legal teamlaunched a crowdfunder to takeraise some of the case forward and and£1000s we need for legal fees to raise about £25,000 to fundchallenge the challenge. The cost is so high because we are challenging HaringeyCPO. PLEASE circulate this link on a numberall your networks - FB, twitter, snapchat, all of grounds. We'll needthem. If you can donate, even better.
http://tinyurl.com/savewcc is the short form, easy
    to raise £6,000 of thissend.
The CPO will now go to a public enquiry, in March/April. This is run
by January and the rest by September 2013.
We can't stand by while Haringey Council exploit the planning process and continue
an independent Inspector. It has to ignore calls fromjudge whether the community to collaborate onCPO - ie forcibly taking property - would be more in the public interest than not. We have a suitable solutionvery strong case for Wards Corner. Sadly launching a legal challenge was the only route left openCPO being refused. But Grainger and Haringey Council will each have teams of barristers and solicitors, possibly QCs. There is no funding available via Legal Aid to us, it waschallenge a CPO. Objectors - us - will be cross-examined by these lawyers - not a decision we made lightly. Withprospect most of us would relish. But Shepherds Bush market recently won against a CPO, this is a far from done deal, though the council pursuingand the developer are treating us as if they can just push ahead regardless. The council Leader said last month that 'Wards Corner is an extensive regeneration agendaeyesore' - so why haven't they and Transport for London (which owns the market site) done better since the Wards store was closed up in Tottenham it is vital we show them1973? 43 years, all that they cannot ignorewasted space and time...
